An American woman has given birth to her first granddaughter after she acted as a surrogate for her daughter and son-in-law, who were struggling with infertility.

Tracey Thompson’s daughter Kelley and her husband had been trying to conceive for a long period of time and sadly experienced three miscarriages in as many years before Tracey decided to step in.

The 54-year-old mum did not hesitate when asked by her daughter to be a surrogate for her embryo.

“The doctor told me that if I was going to go ahead with surrogacy I needed someone I trusted – like my mom,” Kelley told TODAY.com.

Tracey revealed that she was so happy she could help her daughter that she didn’t mind the constant check-ups she experienced throughout the nine months.

“That’s her way of being involved,” said Tracey.

“Since I was carrying her baby we were both overly cautious,” she said.”It meant the world to me to be able to give my daughter and her husband their future, their family,” Tracey said.

“That’s not something you can buy.”
